MALACCA

Malacca is the historical state of Malaysia, rich with heritage buildings, ancient landmarks and colonial structures. It was here that colonial forces first made contact with Malaysia, which eventually shaped the country into its current economic and political system. Malacca has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7 July, 2008. Today, in Malacca, you can still see the imprints of British, Dutch and Portuguese forces left behind in forts, museums, churches and towers.

Jonker Street

Jonker Street [ Jalan Hang Jebat, 75200 Melaka, Malaysia]the centre street of Chinatown in Malacca – was once renowned for its antique shops. However over the years, it has turned to clothing and crafts outlets as well as restaurants. During the day, Jonker Street is rather quiet. Most of the shops only open at 1000h. On the streets, you can expect to see tourists from all over the world such as Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, China and Europe. Tourists of Jonker Street are not only visitors, but also locals who often have their breakfasts in Jonker Street to savour the traditional delicacies. The best part of Jonker Street is the night market on Fridays and Saturdays that sells everything from tasty treats to cheap keepsakes. It's absolutely an eye-opener for us to be there, and a must-go place for all tourists.

Where is it?

Jonker Street is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Malacca. It is located near Sungai Melaka, the Malacca River. Jonker Street stretches across Jalan Hang Jebat, and is sandwiched between Lorang Hang Jebat and Jalan Kubu.
